Hereditary Princess Sophie Elizabeth Marie Gabrielle von und zu Liechtenstein, Countess zu Rietberg (born  October 28, 1967 in Munich ; born Sophie Elizabeth Marie Gabrielle Duchess in Bavaria ) is the eldest of the five daughters of Max Emanuel Herzog in Bavaria and his Swedish wife Elizabeth Christina Countess Douglas . She is the niece of the current head of the Wittelsbach family, Franz Duke of Bavaria . Since her marriage to the Liechtenstein heir to the throne, she has been a Liechtenstein citizen and has the title of Hereditary Princess .

Life

childhood and education

Sophie grew up with her parents and her four sisters Marie, Helene, Elisabeth and Anna in Wildbad Kreuth . In Kreuth , Sophie attended elementary school in the early years. From 1978 to 1980 she attended the girls' home elementary school run by the English Misses in Heiligenstatt .

Sophie later switched to the Hohenburg Castle boarding school in Lenggries . Attending the Adolf-Weber-Gymnasium in Munich from 1984 to 1988 , she graduated from high school .

This was followed by a stay of several months in London , during which she attended seminars at the Inchbald School of Interior Design. She was particularly interested in the different styles of interior design. She studied history and English at the Catholic University in Eichstätt .

Sophie is a great-great-granddaughter of Ludwig III. von Bayern and a great-granddaughter of Otto Ludwig Haas-Heye .

marriage and family

On July 3, 1993, Sophie married the Hereditary Prince Alois von und zu Liechtenstein , eldest son of the ruling Prince Hans Adam II and Princess Marie, in the Catholic cathedral and parish church of St. Florin in Vaduz . The marriage resulted in four children bearing the family title Prince (Princess) von und zu Liechtenstein, Graf (Countess) von Rietberg :

Since Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz has been Queen of the Belgians since her husband's accession to the throne , Hereditary Princess Sophie is next to Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg , née Countess de Lannoy, one of only two European heir to the throne wives who come from a noble house and the only one who was born in the nobility .

Volunteering

Hereditary Princess Sophie opened a counseling center for pregnant women in 2006 in Feldkirch / Austria under the name "schwanger.li" . The advice is primarily aimed at women in emergencies or difficult situations.
