Sore Throat was an English crustcore and grindcore band from Huddersfield and Birmingham , which was founded in 1987 and split up in 1990. In the meantime the band was also called Saw Throat and Soar Throat .

history

The band was formed in the spring of 1987 by vocalist Rich "Militia" Walker. A short time later came drummer Nick Royles. In the beginning they both experimented with the music, mixing songs from U2 with those from Clannad , Repulsion and Napalm Death . They also re-recorded Slayer's album Hell Awaits , but at only 45 rpm . They also recorded a session in which they used an electric guitar, glass bottles, a drum computer, music by Clannad and the frequency noise of a radio to generate the noise. After a false start with Mick Harris (vocals) and Jimmy Whiteley (electric bass) from Napalm Death, with Walker playing electric guitar, guitarist Brian “Bri” Talbot and bassist Jon Pickering joined the line-up. In July 1987 the group played for the first time and supported Extreme Noise Terror , Bolt Thrower and Electro Hippies . The following month the demo Aural Butchery was recorded, which included 27 songs. The demo was followed shortly after by the EP Death to Capitalist Hardcore , which included 44 songs. The recordings for this took place in the Lion Studios in Leeds . After the Noise Annoys demo was recorded, drummer Royles left the band and was replaced by Paul "Hammy" Halmshaw, who was also the owner of Peaceville Records . The band then recorded their Discharge- inspired debut album Unhindered by Talent , which was released through Meantime Records . After a few more appearances, the band signed a contract with Earache Records , which released the album Disgrace to the Corpse of Sid , which contained 99 songs. A few more appearances followed, including in Birmongham, Huddersfield and Ipswich , where they appeared in the latter for John Peel along with Extreme Noise Terror, Carcass and Doom . During this gig, the band came into contact with Shane Dabinett, owner of Manic Ears Records . With this label, the band released their album Inde $ troy in 1988, the group called Saw Throat. The recording took place at Lion Studios in Leeds, with Guy Hatton and Andy Tillison taking over the production. Towards the end of 1989 the band released the mini-album Never Mind the Napalm ... , which consisted of the EPs Death to Capitalist Hardcore and the previously released Soar Throat , a Japanese single, and eight new songs. In 1990 the band split up. Towards the end of the year as well as the following year, the band was revived for a few appearances, with members of various bands sometimes helping out.

style

The band names the Swedish and Finnish punk scene as one of their main influences, naming groups like Shitlickers , Headcleaners , Terveet Kadet , Crude SS , Kuolema , Tampere SS , Kaaos , Anti-Cimex , Mellakka and Ratus . She also names Dutch , Belgian and French bands such as Lärm , Rapt , Pandemonium and Zyklome A , as well as Brazilian bands such as Ohlo Seco , Cólera , Ulster and Innocentees . The band also plays other genres such as Wretched , Siege , the early Gang Green , Skum Dribblurzzz , Discharge , Napalm Death, Disorder , Rudimentary Peni , Celtic Frost and Chaos UK . The band also mentions influences from bands like Coil , Current 93 and Clannad. The band decided never to rehearse in the studio, but to improvise the recordings. The songs were often directed against the emerging crossover movement, including bands like DRI and musicians like Billy Milano . With their album Inde $ stroy , the band orientated themselves mainly towards groups like Saint Vitus , The Melvins and Swans .
