The Harle Kurier is a passenger ship of the shipping company Warrings stationed in Wilhelmshaven , which is often used in summer for harbor tours in Wilhelmshaven and as a ferry between Wilhelmshaven and Eckwarderhörne .
The ship
The ship was built as Langeoog II at the Schlömer Brothers shipyard in Oldersum , East Frisia . The launch took place in May 1971. In the same month the ship for the shipping of the island community Langeoog started the ferry service between Bensersiel and Langeoog . In 1980 the ship was renamed Stadt Wittmund and from then on operated as an island ferry to Wangerooge . In 1985 the ship was renamed Spiekeroog II and served the passenger traffic between Neuharlingersiel and the island of Spiekeroog . The ship has had its current name since 1991 and is mainly used as a passenger and bicycle ferry between Wilhelmshaven and Eckwarderhörne as well as for harbor tours or trips to the seal banks.
On February 19, 2013, a fire broke out in the engine room on a transfer trip and the non-propelled ship had to be towed back to Norderney by the rescue cruiser Bernhard Gruben . The three-man crew of the Harle-Kurier were unharmed.
