history

The current church was built on the site of a previous church from the 13th century. From a later church building from the 15th century, parts of the walls of the nave and the southern vestibule are still preserved. The choir and nave as well as the upper part of the south porch were built in the 16th century. The west facade and the bell tower were started in 1657, in the following years the lanterns and the balustrade were placed on the tower.

architecture

inner space

The right-angled bell tower is supported by massive buttresses, between which a portal framed by columns opens on the ground floor. Above the portal , a niche with the figure of the patron saint has been cut into an aedicle-like structure with two segmented gables lying on top of each other, which rest on pilasters and lateral volutes . The tower is flanked by two narrow, octagonal stair towers, which, like the tower, are crowned by onion domes and lanterns.

The just closed choir head is structured by buttresses and broken through by three large tracery windows. An inscription with the year 1581, the year it was built, is carved on the southern porch above the outer portal. The portal is framed by arched archivolts , the columns are spolia and come from the church building in the 15th century. A figure of Ecce homo and a Madonna and Child stand in the side niches . The inner portal still has its carved wood door, which is inscribed with the year 1656.

The three-aisled nave is divided into six bays . The chapels attached to the nave give the impression of a transept.

  • Passion window (window 0)

The four-lane window is dated around 1520 and attributed to Olivier Le Sodec. Scenes of the Passion are shown on two levels . On the upper level you can see the crucifixion , the descent from the cross, the entombment and the resurrection of Christ , below in the middle the carrying of the cross and the scene of Jesus before Pilate. Sifter couples with their patron saints are depicted on the two outer panes, Jacques de Névet and Claudine de Guengat with John the Baptist on the left, their son René de Névet and his wife with the Archangel Michael on the right . In the tracery you can see putti and coats of arms, the pane with the Madonna and Child comes from a window depicting the Adoration of the Magi.

Transfiguration of Jesus
  • Window of the Transfiguration of Jesus (Window 1)

The three-lane window of the Transfiguration of Jesus is also dated around 1520 and is ascribed to Laurent Le Sodec. On the lower level you can see a Madonna and Child in the middle, on the left Mary Magdalene with her ointment vessel and on the right St. Catherine of Alexandria with the wheel at her feet and the sword in her hand. The inscription LONRANS can be seen behind the head of Maria Magdalena, which is taken as a reference to Laurent Le Sodec. The hem of Mary Magdalene's robe is also provided with an inscription in Latin that contains invocations. On the level above, the apostles Peter , the beardless John and James the Elder are depicted with the pilgrim's staff. You look up to Jesus, who stands in a white robe, surrounded by a golden mandorla, with raised hands in front of a red sky with white clouds. At the side rise from the clouds Moses (left), who holds the tablets of the law in his hands (left), and the prophet Elias (right).

Last Judgment
  • Last Judgment Scenes Window (Window 2)

The three-lane window is divided into four levels. The panes of the three upper levels with the representation of the Last Judgment were made between 1520 and 1525. In the upper center, Christ is enthroned as judge of the world, below you can see Mary , surrounded by saints. The discs below represent two trumpet angels and the resurrection of the dead tormented by devils. On the right pane a resurrected one is received by an angel. The lower panes come from other windows and were probably used in the end of the 19th century under the scenes of the Last Judgment. They represent a knight with the Archangel Michael on the left, the Annunciation in the middle. The right pane depicting a donor and Saint Barbara of Nicomedia is dated around 1500.

The panes of the tracery depicting God the Father and four angels were created around 1525 to 1530. The three lancets are dated to the second half of the 16th century. In the middle stands Christ over his tomb, next to which lie the sleeping guards. The lower scene shows a deacon. The lancet on the left shows the holy Edern riding a stag above , a bishop in the middle and below Saint Nicholas who is sitting in a ship and trying to soothe the sea.
