St. Alban's Church in Stillnau

St. Alban is a Catholic parish church in Stillnau , a district of the municipality of Bissingen in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau , which was built in the 17th century. The church is a protected architectural monument .

history

Stillnau belonged to the parish of Bissingen and only became independent in 1847. The baroque church was built from 1669 to 1672 according to the plans of the builder Georg Danner . The previous building was a small Romanesque choir tower church that stood in the same place. The patron saint, Count Wilhelm IV of Oettingen-Wallerstein , placed the order for the new church and secured the financing. The consecration took place on June 27, 1686 by the Augsburg auxiliary bishop Johannes Eustache Egolf von Westernach . The last exterior and interior renovation took place in 1987/88.

architecture

The church, consecrated to St. Alban , is a single-nave construction with four axes and a recessed choir raised by three steps . The nave and the choir are covered with a flat barrel with stitch caps . The wall structure consists of pilasters with a transom profile and paneling up to the window sills . A profiled cornice forms the upper end . Over the retracted round arched windows there are pointed arch fields with semicircular windows above the cornice.

Georg Bschorer's pulpit

In the west there is a double gallery that stands on square pillars . The round-arched west portal has a keystone with the coat of arms of the House of Oettingen and the initials WGZÖ. for Wilhelm Graf zu Öttingen. The sign was established in the 19th century.

Furnishing

The pulpit is a work by Johann Georg Bschorer from 1738. The three altars were also made by him in 1728. The high altar was replaced in 1857 by an altar from the Thony workshop in Augsburg. Thomas Gsele completed the organ prospectus in 1765. Among the figures in the church are particularly worth mentioning St. Alban (around 1490/1500) and a Virgin (around 1480/90).
