The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Andreas is a baroque hall church in Elbach , a district of the Fischbachau community in the Miesbach district in Upper Bavaria . It belongs to the parish of Elbach in the parish association of Oberes Leitzachtal in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising . Immediately next to it is the Catholic cemetery chapel dedicated to the Holy Blood .

History and architecture

In 1648 the originally late Gothic tower and the church were badly damaged by lightning. After extensive repairs, during which a new high altar was erected, renewed lightning strikes damaged the church in 1655 and 1670. After repeated repairs, the dilapidated nave was demolished in 1688.

The present church was built in 1689 by Johann Mayr the Elder from Hausstatt, the choir tower was added by the builder of Weyarn Monastery, Caspar Glasl, in 1722. A restoration took place in the years 1991–1999, inside according to findings from 1722. The church is a five-bay hall with a retracted, three-sided closed choir on the tower ground floor. A barrel vault with stitch caps with a geometric stucco frame over a wall structure made of flat wall templates and Corinthian pilasters completes the interior. The ceiling paintings were probably created by Glasl and show a popular representation of the legend of St. Andrew and the life of Mary as well as the death of St. Anne and the Assumption of Mary .

Furnishing

The main piece of equipment is a high altar from 1697 with altar leaves depicting the martyrdom of St. Andrew and the coronation of Mary , flanked by figures of St. Peter and St. John the Evangelist . As on the side altars , the executing artists were Kistler Hans Berberich, the painter Johann Vicelli and the sculptor Lorenz Hagn. On the left side altar there is a painting of St. George and on the right a mercy seat with saints over the poor souls .

The ceiling frescoes with scenes from the life of St. Andrew date from 1791, the artist is unknown. The excellent Stations of the Cross were made in 1788 by Johann Böham from Bad Aibling. Sebastian Troger was commissioned to redesign the baroque crucifixion group in 1765.

Under Rococo - canopies figures are the Virgin Mary erected (simulation) and of St Joseph of the 1760th The pulpit is a work from 1788 similar to that in the Church of All Saints . The cheeks, the choir stalls and the oratorio grille were created in 1689 by Caspar Schindler from Elbach. A valuable baroque Christmas crib is also part of the equipment, as well as several well-designed procession and guild poles with small figures of saints. The pictures of the apostles on the lower gallery are probably from the 19th century. The organ is a work by Andreas Grünerdt from 1788 with 10 stops on a manual and pedal , which has since been heavily rebuilt several times and restored by Johannes Führer in 1998 .
