Emergence

Sindlingen, which was first mentioned in a document in 763, belonged to the Archdiocese of Mainz until the beginning of the 19th century . In 1609 the parish church of St. Dionysius was built in place of a chapel . It was again demolished in 1823 for the construction of the new church. In the same year, the construction of the classical church began according to plans by the architect Carl Florian Goetz . It was completed in 1827 and probably the first bishop of the new diocese of Limburg , Jacob Brant , consecrated . Today the congregation belongs to the pastoral area Frankfurt-Höchst.

architecture

St. Dionysius is located on the southern edge of the village center of Sindlingen in Huthmacherstraße. The church is about 40 meters long, 24 meters wide and facing east. The classical architecture is characterized by a building cube with a temple-like gable in the west and an apse in the east. Pilasters with capitals suggest an order of columns . These decorative elements and other special components such as the eaves and the gable are made of sandstone. The plastered outer walls are laid out in white and yellow. Arched windows structure the facades. The hipped roof is covered with slate .

Through the entrance portal in the west one enters the three-aisled basilica and looks at the apse with the high altar . It is covered with a semi- dome . The middle nave is vaulted by a barrel roof that rests on four large Doric columns and is designed as a coffered ceiling . The side aisles are flat-roofed and divided by wooden galleries. The windows light up the sanctuary under the dome. The organ gallery closes off the room to the west. The surfaces of the interior are painted in different shades of gray and beige, and some are marbled . The stalls offer around 600 seats.

Furnishing

The golden dome is decorated with a representation of the Trinity . God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit together crown Mary , Mother of God. The high altar, created in 1914, shows a crucifixion group in the middle of which the kneeling Mary Magdalene kisses the dead Jesus on the feet. Four Ionic columns support the architrave of the altar. Figures of the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul flank it. Above the crucifixion group, the church patron Dionysius is depicted with his companions Rustikus and Eleutherius. Because of the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council is before the high altar since 1983 people's altar . The pulpit was installed in front of the right front column in 1844 and shows Christ, the church patron and the four evangelists on a golden background . At the end of the side aisles there is an altar dedicated to Mary and Joseph .

The organ prospectus dates from 1831 and was created for the old organ from the previous church. In 1931 a new organ by Johannes Klais was installed in the case.
