The Catholic Chapel of St. Georg (also known as the Kreuzkapelle ) in Bachhagel , a community in the Bavarian district of Dillingen on the Danube , was built in the 15th century. The chapel at St.-Georg-Straße 21, on the western slope of the Kränzleberg in the walled cemetery, is a protected monument .

history

The chapel consecrated to St. George was originally the parish church of the old hamlet of Lobershofen . The choir shows designs from the 15th century. A new nave was added in 1692 and the sacristy was added in the 20th century .

description

The choir and the nave, which are equally wide, are separated by a round, wide belt arch . The square choir is covered by a ribbed star vault with fluted ribs and a smooth keystone . To the north and south there is an enlarged baroque window, closed with a rounded arch above and below. Behind the altar a door leads to the sacristy. The nave is covered by a basket-arched barrel with groin caps in two yokes . The windows are designed as if in a choir. In the west is the arched entrance, which has a bevelled stone wall on the outside . Inside, the gallery can be reached via a spiral staircase .

Console with the coat of arms of Höchstädt and the year 1692

The three- story roof turret sits on a stepped console on the curved west gable . The storeys are separated by cornices . The roof turret is crowned by an onion helmet. On the console is the coat of arms of Höchstädt an der Donau , since the church set from Lobershofen was donated to the hospital in Höchstädt an der Donau in 1382, and the year 1692 is attached. On the facade there are two stepped buttresses with pent roofs all around .

Furnishing

The altar from the 18th century has an altar panel from the 19th century depicting Our Lady and the fourteen helpers in need .

There are remains of late Gothic wall paintings on the east wall of the choir .
