The Catholic parish church of St. Georg in Oberpfaffenhofen , a district of the municipality of Weßling in the Upper Bavarian district of Starnberg , is a late Gothic choir tower church that was built in the middle of the 15th century. It is consecrated to St. George , who is venerated as a martyr and one of the fourteen helpers in need. The church is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.

history

The Oberpfaffenhofen church was built around 1455. Formerly the year 1467 could be read on the tower. Around 1760 the church was redesigned in Baroque style and expanded to the west. A comprehensive renovation took place between 1983 and 1987.

architecture

sundial

The mighty choir tower has an octagonal structure, which is crowned by a pyramid roof. The bell storey is broken through by pointed arches , partially coupled and framed by three-pass arches . A sundial is painted on the south side of the tower , underneath the inscription: “Built 1467 - ren. 1760 - Renov. 1983 ". The sacristy is built on the north side of the tower .

The single nave nave is flat-roofed. The choir on the first floor of the tower has a ribbed vault and is currently closed.

fresco

Wall fresco

A fresco from the construction period has been preserved on the south side of the nave . Surrounded by a painted frame, four people are shown, under their feet a tape runs, the inscription, however, can no longer be deciphered. The St. Andrew's cross , with which one person is depicted, probably refers to the apostle of the same name, two other people hold books in their hands. On the right side, outside the frame, a smaller, kneeling figure is painted.
