St. Jodocus

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Jodocus is located in Göschitz , a community in the Saale-Orla district in Thuringia . Their namesake is the holy Jodok . The parish Göschitz belongs to the parish Oettersdorf-Neundorf in the church district Schleiz the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

In 1341 there was an indulgence by Bishop Withego I of Ostrau to renew a church that had been around for a long time. 1492, in a document , a St. Bartholomew consecrated chapel mentioned, has long since disappeared. After it was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War in 1643 , the church was poorly restored. A cartridge over an entrance door indicates that the church was rebuilt in 1725. Another cartouche shows the year 1825, the church was completely renovated. In the 1970s the church was renovated.

The originally medieval hall church with choir tower was converted into a baroque church in 1725 . In doing so, it received its current high window. The nave is covered with a hipped gable roof . On the tower sits a hood on which an open lantern sits. In it hang three bells , a bronze bell from 1897 and two cast steel bells from 1949. The church furnishings and the galleries are from the construction period. Proverbs from the Bible are written in gold on a black background on the balustrades of the galleries . A small plaque commemorates the late wife of the poet Julius Sturm , who worked as a pastor in Göschitz .

The pulpit altar is decorated with gilded rocailles . Opposite him is the organ on the west gallery . It has 16 stops , divided into 2 manuals and a pedal , was built in 1911 by EF Walcker & Cie . The prospectus adorned with two putti comes from Johann Tobias Hiebe from Schleiz. The baptismal font is made of wood.
