history

Untereßfeld already existed as a parish in the 8th century and was the mother parish for 14 villages. Today's church had several previous buildings in the same place. Its oldest component is the church tower . It was built in the 15th century and increased in 1612. The nave and choir were built in 1699 and consecrated in 1708.

description

The nave has four window axes and a flat stucco ceiling . The northern choir with five-eighth closure has a cap vault . The windows of the nave and choir are segmental arches. The church tower on the east side of the choir is a Julius Echter tower with the characteristic pointed roof and pointed arched sound windows .

Furnishing

The high altar with a four-column structure was created around 1750. The central crucifixion group is accompanied by figures of the church patrons John the Baptist and Aquilin . The side altars were made around 1700. They both have two twisted columns that are decorated with vine tendrils. On the right side altar, the central painting depicts the murder of St. Aquiline, the painting in the top depicts St. John Nepomuk . A figure of St. Joseph stands on the base of the altar . The Marriage of Mary is depicted in the center of the left side altar, and St. Christopher is shown in the essay . The figure of the Mother of God with child on this altar base was created by Johann Peter Wagner . Another rococo- style altar of Mary from around 1750 is set up on the western wall of the nave . Next to it is the pulpit , a work by the painter Johann Michael Köhler from Königshofen. The organ on the southern gallery was manufactured by Johann Philipp Seuffert in 1758 and rebuilt by the company Weise in Plattling in 1936 . Also worth mentioning is the 12th station of the cross , a painting by Johann Peter Herrlein .
