The Roman Catholic Church of St. Josef in Castrop-Rauxel , in the Habinghorst district , is the parish and parish church of the Catholic parish Corpus-Christi of the Emschertal dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

Building history

The sparsely populated area in Habinghorst, like many other places in the Ruhr area, experienced rapid population growth in the last third of the 19th century as a result of mining that expanded to the north. Although Habinghorst belonged to the Castrop office , the Catholic residents celebrated their services in the parish of St. Lambertus in Henrichenburg in Vest Recklinghausen . Only when the place developed into an up-and-coming industrial community did this church bond come to an end. In 1905 the Parish Rectorate St. Joseph was founded in Habinghorst. The church building itself has been planned since then. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on April 23, 1912, the foundation stone was laid on October 13, 1912, and the first service was celebrated on May 1, 1913. In 1914 the building was ceremoniously consecrated . The design comes from the Cologne architect Carl Moritz . In 1962 and 1975 the church was extensively renovated.

In front of the church is the sacraments well by Paul Reding .

Furnishing

Bells

The church received a four-part steel bell in 1921, which was shut down and removed in 1996. In 1996 the foundry Petit & Edelbrock from Gescher delivered five bells Jesus Christ (tone h °), St. Josef (tone d '), St. Barbara (tone f sharp'), St. Ludgerus (tone a ') and St. Liborius ( Tone h '). In 1997 the Barbaraglocke (tone e ') came from the same foundry. The bells together form the ideal sextet h ° -d'-e'-fis'-a'-h '.

Pastoral Association Castrop-Rauxel Nord

On February 1st, 2003 the four cath. Parishes of St. Barbara and St. Antonius, Ickern, St. Josef, Habinghorst and Herz Jesu, Rauxel incorporated into the Castrop-Rauxel Nord pastoral network. All four communities remained legally independent. Only pastoral care and pastoral care were more closely linked. An example of cooperation is e.g. B. the common procession on the feast of Corpus Christi . In addition, in the pastoral association council and other committees at the deanery and diocese level, the merger to form a common overall parish was prepared in 2015. This process was called "Effata - Open yourself!".

Catholic Parish Corpus Christi

On January 1, 2015, the four parishes of the Pastoral Association Castrop-Rauxel Nord were abolished and merged into the new parish Corpus Christi. At the same time, the pastoral association Castrop-Rauxel Nord expired. The newly founded parish is the first overall parish in the Emschertal deanery. Like the other three parishes, the parish of St. Josef became a sub-parish of the entire parish.

While retaining its church title , St. Joseph's Church was designated the parish church of the Corpus Christi parish. At the same time it is the parish church for the St. Josef parish in Habinghorst. The other three churches have become subsidiary churches of the parish.

With the foundation of the parish, there is now only one parish council, one parish council and one local parish committee in each parish, which is supposed to maintain, promote and shape life in the pastoral field.
