St. Laurentius (Dattenfeld)
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Laurentius in Windeck- Dattenfeld was built between 1879 and 1880 as a two- tower church in the neo-Romanesque style instead of a previous building that was demolished in 1878 . Because of the double tower facade (tower height 56 m) the church is also often called "Siegtaldom". The two lower floors of the north tower come from the old parish church from the 12/13. Century, which was originally probably only a chapel, but was extended to a three-aisled church with a length of about 25.60 m and a width of 7.85 m and was already consecrated to St. Lawrence of Rome .
history
On June 16, 895, Dattenfeld was first mentioned in a deed of gift to the Cassius Foundation in Bonn. "... in a village called Dateleveld, I am giving a church with a courtyard consisting of 30 yoke of seed land with a house and a barn." Little is known about this church.
In the 12th century the Romanesque predecessor of today's church was built. This remained until the 19th century.
In 1856 the first considerations about a new church took place because of the dilapidation and growth of the community. Approval for a new building was given in 1874 by the General Vicariate of Cologne. In spring 1878 the demolition of the old church began except for the tower.
The foundation stone was laid on April 29, 1879 under Pastor Johannes Hilden and Vicar Hugo Westerhoven. The benediction of the new building takes place on the feast of the patron saint, St. Laurentius, on August 10, 1880. The consecration was carried out by the then Auxiliary Bishop Antonius Fischer from Cologne in 1893.
In the years from 1979 to 1981 the church was extensively renovated with renewal of the vaults in the central and transepts, reinforcement of the masonry and new paintings.
Building
The current church was designed and built by the Cologne architect August Carl Lange . The Romanesque north tower was increased by one storey by Lange and completed by a dwarf gallery . In this way, as well as by the new, equipped with small ornamental gables spire it was adapted to the newly established South Tower.
There is a simple eight-part rose above the main portal . There are two other side portals in the north. The massive choir is striking , with a one-story sacristy building attached to the southeast corner . The crossing is crowned by a roof turret.
The parish church of St. Laurentius is the only double-towered church in the Rhein-Sieg district .
Church interior
St. Laurentius is a three- aisled , cross-vaulted column basilica . The main choir and the side choirs are elevated. In the old Romanesque north tower is the baptistery, the floor of which is 16 cm lower than in the rest of the church. A cross-ribbed vault stretches over it, the ribs of which rest on rough masks. When the church was rebuilt, a six-part fan window was broken into the west wall. In the baptistery there is a Romanesque font from andesite from the end of the 12th century . The typical Rhenish baptismal font is surrounded by six corner pillars and is covered by a modern baptismal font created by Hein Gernot in 1962.
The high altar is the work of the Cologne sculptor Jägers (around 1880) with a tabernacle safe from around 1930.
In the apse of the southern transept there is a reconstruction of the Dattenfeld Madonna on a stone plinth , which was made in 2003 in a South Tyrolean carving workshop. On June 10, 2006, the Madonna was consecrated by Joachim Cardinal Meisner . The original is a sculpture from the first quarter of the 14th century, as one of the earliest Cologne seated Madonnas of the Gothic period, it is in the Kolumba Museum in Cologne .
organ
The organ was built in 1940 by the organ building workshop Johannes Klais in Bonn. The Kegelladen instrument has 28 stops on three manuals and a pedal . The game actions are electric, the stop actions are pneumatic. The instrument was later given an electronic setting system.
