St. Laurentius (Stederdorf)

The St. Laurentius Church in Stederdorf is a field stone church . It was named after St. Lawrence of Rome . The builders of the church were the Lords of Bollensen. It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish Nettelkamp in the parish of Uelzen of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover .

The church consists of a single nave Romanesque stone building with a recessed choir rectangle and a semicircular apse . 220 people can take a seat in it.

Probably the oldest part of the church is in the Romanesque style , built chancel at the east end. It is estimated to be around 1000 to 1100 years old. The door leading from the church into the sacristy gives an indication of this .

Interior

The baptismal font of St. Lawrence Church of sandstone made and according to the inscription a foundation of the priest Hermann von Abbensen from the year 1364. The of brass -made baptismal bowl dates from 1644 and bears the name of founder Versmann and Ellerndorf. The matching baptismal font is a newer foundation called Elise Modrach.

Bells

The ringing of the St. Laurentius Church consists of four bells. The largest bell was cast in 1520. It is the oldest and most valuable bell in the church and bears the name of St. Lawrence . The Pomeranian bell was cast in 1654 for the church in Zirchow , Stolp district (Pomerania). It escaped destruction by melting down and was loaned to the Church of St. Laurentius after the Second World War. It bears the inscription " Soli Deo Gloria ". This means: "Glory to God alone". The peace bell is one of the younger bells in the church and was donated by the Landgrebe family. The smallest bell was donated by farmer Janecke; it sounds not only in the choir of the other bells, but also individually at baptisms .

altar

The altar of the church was built in 1651 by master Christoph Hempel from Nettelkamp and painted in 1665 by master painter Johannes Oelpken from Uelzen. It shows pictures from the salvation history of the Old Testament and the New Testament .

pulpit

The pulpit in the Baroque style dates from 1650. It was also made by Christoph Hempel. It shows the four evangelists in four different pictures.

crucifix

The church crucifix is one of the most valuable items in the church. It is probably 550 years old. It is artfully made of wood and hangs from the ceiling as a triumphal cross in front of the choir room .

chandelier

The church has an electrically operated seven-armed chandelier that burns at Christ's feasts. There is also an Easter candlestick , the candle of which is lit at Easter and on the following Sundays and at baptisms.

organ

The first organ was built in 1894 and donated by Ernst Borchers. It was replaced in 1972 by a new organ from Emil Hammer Orgelbau in Hanover .

tower

The old original wooden tower was replaced by a new church tower in 1894 , which received a new cross in 1970 . In 1980 the church tower was renovated. There was a marble plaque over the door in the tower . This marble tablet bore the inscription: "Lord, I love the place of your house and the place where your honor dwells." It has not been preserved. A lantern now hangs in its place .

Church window

The St. Laurentius Church Stederdorf has four artistically designed church windows .

The first church window on the left side of the church was donated in 1959 by H. Hinrichs from Esterholz. It shows the washing of feet from the New Testament . In this scene, Jesus humiliates himself and washes the feet of his disciples .

The second church window on the left side of the church was donated by S. Finkbein, also in 1959. The picture shows Jesus on a throne . He holds the Bible in one hand , the other he holds up in a blessing .

The first stained glass window on the right side of the church was donated by the Ravens family on October 22, 1984. It bears the words “Let the children come to me” and shows Jesus blessing children while many people look on in amazement.

The second church window on the right-hand side of the church was made in 1951 by the Hanover glass painting company . O. Brenneisen donated the window in which a ship caught in a storm is depicted. The church window probably shows Jesus taming the storm in which he and his disciples are trapped.

location

The St. Laurentius Church is located on a branch of Stederdorf's main street, Stederaustraße. The side street is a dead end and is called "An der Kirche". Behind the church flows the Stederau , a small section of the Ilmenau .

The church grounds with the graves of the old pastors , some trees, a lantern and a small bench are enclosed by a hedge . It is accessible through a small church gate.

The community center in Stederdorf is directly connected to the church premises.

Behind the church, a path leads from the sacristy to the community center.
