The former pilgrimage church of St. Marien or Rosenkirche is in Elende , a district of the town of Bleicherode in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia . It is consecrated to Mary , the Mother of God . The parish loin part of the parish Gebra in the parish area Niedergebra the church district Südharz in the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

What began as a large Marien pilgrimage church in 1419 is now a small village church . The statue of the Virgin Mary , which drew so many people to Elende in the Middle Ages , is now in the Marienkirche in Heiligenstadt . The once 42 m long pilgrimage church was declared dilapidated in 1799 and, after being demolished, was re-consecrated in 1804. The medieval baptismal font is now in the Catholic St. Bonifatius Church in Friedrichslohra .

From the earlier Gothic hall church only the elongated choir with a 5/8 end is preserved. In the south a polygonal closed chapel and in the north the sacristy made of ashlar were added . In 1804, most of the nave , the church tower , the adjoining round stair tower in the north and the chapel in the south were demolished. The church was built in its current form. A tower-shaped structure with a pyramid roof was erected from the rest of the nave , the approaches and arches of the earlier additions are still visible. The eaves are shaped like a large hollow and adorned with a row of five-petalled roses. In the interior , parts of the pointed triumphal arch are still preserved. The nave is covered with a wooden flat ceiling. The galleries are also made of wood. The pulpit altar is from 1804. The tower clock is approx. 300 years old and only has a clock hand that shows quarter, half and full hours. The bronze bell , cast in 1817, survived the Second World War . In 2019 a second, small bell was bought and the bell cage is complete again.

The Knauf Organ

On the balustrade of the gallery for the organ there is a carved Gothic statue of a bishop holding a model of a church. The organ with 7 registers , divided between a manual and a pedal , was created by the organ builder Knauf in 1840 . It mainly houses wooden pipes.
