history

In 1292 a church was mentioned in the old village of Beetzendorf, which was consecrated to St. George and died in the 16th century.

During the reign of Charles IV in the Margraviate of Brandenburg from 1373 to 1378 , the von der Schulenburg had a chapel and a cemetery built in Burgflecken Beetzendorf, which at that time comprised approximately today's Steinweg . The chapel, already consecrated to Mary, was a branch church of the parish of Audorf . The bishop of the Diocese of Verden , Heinrich I von Langeln , gave permission for this in July 1375. In 1534, this church was replaced by a new building for the first time.

In 1735/36 the church was replaced by today's church in the same place. Adolph Friedrich von der Schulenburg , who was also buried in the church, had this building built. At that time he was the owner of the Great Court next to the church . A thorough renovation took place in 1836, and in 1925/26 the timber-framed tower of the church was replaced by a massive tower.

During the Second World War , the church was damaged on October 20, 1943 when fire bombs were dropped on Beetzendorf. The remainder of a defused incendiary bomb was left in the ceiling of the nave. During the renovation of the church between 2004 and 2005, the remains of the incendiary bomb were used again in the same place as a reminder.

Architecture and equipment

The easted church was built as a baroque central building based on the model of the Potsdam garrison church. The plastered building stands on a rectangular floor plan, its hipped roof is covered with plain tiles. The square tower covered with slate merges into an octagon . A hood with a lantern forms the top .

Your interior is closed off by a flat ceiling . On the east side there is a classical altar wall with pulpit and organ . To the south, west and north sides are galleries built. On the west gallery you can see an alliance coat of arms of the noble family von der Schulenburg, which was the church patron . The painting on the south side shows Adolph Friedrich von der Schulenburg, the builder of the church. The church stalls have left a central aisle free since 2008.

The Beetzendorfer war memorial stands on the forecourt of the church .
