Parish Church of St. Michael

The Catholic parish church of St. Michael in Jesenwang in the Upper Bavarian district of Fürstenfeldbruck is a late Gothic building that was converted to Baroque style in the early 18th century . The church is dedicated to the Archangel Michael . It is one of the protected architectural monuments in Bavaria.

history

In the course of the baroque renovation of the church between 1700 and 1715, the services and vault ribs in the choir were removed and the vault was covered with stucco decoration . In 1922/23 the nave was renewed and extended to the west.

Exterior construction

The bell tower covered with an onion dome stands in the northern corner of the choir . It consists of a square basement and an octagonal structure, which is divided by cornices and glare fields. The bell storey is broken through by arched sound arcades . The portal is integrated into a narrow sign on the south side of the nave.

The interior is a late Gothic hall building with a retracted choir that closes with a five-eighth key. The nave is covered by a segment barrel, which is provided with frame stucco and ceiling paintings . The western end of the nave is formed by a double gallery , to which a wooden staircase leads on both sides. On the upper gallery, a bulged parapet which is the organ housed. The parapets of the two galleries are decorated with glare fields.

Stucco ceiling in the choir

The originally Gothic ribbed vault in the choir has a baroque stucco decoration made of acanthus tendrils , angel heads, rocaille and fruit garlands.

Ceiling painting

The ceiling paintings in the choir and in the nave were done in 1936 by Waldemar Kolmsperger . The resurrection of Christ is depicted in the nave, and a bishop's dream in the choir. The oval picture above the gallery shows the handover of the Jesenwang church to the Freising Bishop Arbeo in 773, the oval picture at the choir arch shows the bishop of Freising, Gottfried von Hexenagger , who handed over the church to the Fürstenfeld monastery in 1314 .

Furnishing

  • The high altar was created in the early 18th century. To the side are the figures of the apostles Peter and Paul . The altarpiece with the depiction of the church patron , the Archangel Michael, dates from the late 17th century.
  • The side altars, the paintings of which were later restored, are, like the pulpit, works of the late Rococo and date from the mid-18th century.
