St. Nikolai to Farmer

The church Sankt Nikolai zu Bauer in Wehrland, a district of the municipality of Zemitz in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district , is a field stone building from the 13th century. It stands east of Wehrland on a hill with a view of the Peenestrom and the Gnitz . The church belongs to the parish of Lassan , Bauer and Pinnow- Murchin , which has been part of the Demmin provost in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany since 2012 . Before that she belonged to the Greifswald parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .

history

The choir was built around 1285, and the nave was added a little later. The western gable is dated to the 14th century according to its brick panels. The repair work on a tower that no longer exists is documented for 1598. Roof and ceiling beams were renewed around 1700, while the choir and the edges of the nave were increased. In 1839 extensive renovation measures were carried out. In addition to the repair work on the building, the church received new equipment. The churchyard was expanded and enclosed with a stone wall. The roof and facade were renovated in 2007 and 2008. A baroque choir ceiling was found, which was reinstalled in 2008.

building

Baroque ceiling and organ gallery

The church is a rectangular field stone building with a drawn-in, just closed choir. In the north and south walls of the nave and choir there are pointed arch windows in brick walls. The choir window is framed with four-step red bricks and was renewed in 2013. A large east window with three set round bars in the gradations of the stepped brick walls is walled up. The layering of the field stones indicates that the gable roof of the choir was bricked up at an earlier time. On the north side of the three-bay nave there is a walled-up portal that is framed with red bricks. The west portal has a stepped bead in brick. Above is a brick gable with pointed arch and diamond panels. There are brick pinnacles on the eaves and on the ridge.

On the south side of the building there is a free-standing wooden bell tower with a gable roof and two bells.

Furnishing

Baroque painting of the ceiling

The church has a flat beamed ceiling with baroque tendril painting, which is dated to around 1708. In addition to the gold-colored tendrils, several putti and the title of the church cantata “Gloria In Excelsis Deo” (Glory to God in the Heights) by Johann Sebastian Bach can be seen. The upper part of the northern and southern walls of the choir consist of brick framework. During the last renovation, a medieval painting was uncovered on the eastern choir wall. On the northern wall of the choir there are two epitaphs that are reminiscent of the von Quistorp family : Hans Ulrich von Quistorp (1904–1946) and Ulrich von Quistorp (1860–1903). Opposite, two more epitaphs remind of Albert Voss (1842–1866), the son of the builder of the manor, and of the von Lepel family . The organ gallery is kept in a simple gray and white tone and is reminiscent of the fallen from the First World War .

The simple baptismal font is a medieval cup made of Gotland limestone. The Altarmensa is made of Ölandstein . There is also a sacrament niche with a medieval door on which tendrils and inside stars are painted on a blue background. A knotted carpet in the choir shows three of the four evangelist symbols and dates from the mid-19th century. It was a present from Mia von Quistorp .

organ

The organ with a neo-Gothic prospect was built in 1866 by Wilhelm Remler from Berlin. It is Remler's only organ in Western Pomerania and has two manuals and a pedal . In 2009 the organ builder Andreas Arnold completed the renovation of the organ. He rounded off previously dented metal pipes and overhauled all 405 pipes.
