The Catholic parish church of St. Peter in Burghagel , a district of the Bachhagel community in the district of Dillingen an der Donau in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia , was built at the beginning of the 18th century on the site of a previous building. The church was given its present-day interior during a major renovation in 1887.

history

After the old parish church of Burghagel was considered dilapidated, it was demolished around 1715. Around 1717 it was followed by a new building based on the plans of the Gundelfingen master builder Johann Windtschmidt. The new church was completed in 1719, as indicated by the year on the choir arch . In 1887 the church was restored and furnished with new ceiling paintings, the altars and today's pulpit .

architecture

Exterior construction

The six-story tower crowned with an onion dome rises on the west facade . Half of the square substructure is built into the west wall of the nave . A wide profile cornice separates it from its two-storey, octagonal structure. This is structured by corner pilasters and glare fields and broken through on both floors on all four sides by arched sound arcades .

A sundial is attached to the south wall of the nave . The one-story sacristy covered with a hipped roof is built onto the east wall of the choir . The portal is on the north side.

inner space

The nave has a single nave and is divided into three axes . Like the choir, it is covered by a basket-arched barrel with stitch caps that rest on cornices. The walls are divided flat pilasters with fancy capitals .

A basket arched choir arch leads to the drawn-in, three-sided closed choir, in whose east wall a round window has broken. The western end is formed by a double gallery resting on wooden columns , the upper and lower parapets of which are bulged in the middle. The organ is located on the upper gallery .

Piece

The ceiling is decorated with rich stucco decoration made of rocaille cartouches , tendrils and foliage. Two large shellwork cartouches on the choir arch frame the year 1719, the year the church was completed.

Ceiling pictures

The ceiling paintings of the nave were made in 1887 by Peter Dagn from Dillingen an der Donau . They depict the Annunciation , the birth of Christ and, above the organ loft, the coronation of Mary. The medallions on the sides depict the Visitation , the flight into Egypt, the marriage of Mary and St. Dominic receiving the rosary .
