The Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul is located in Günz , a district of Westerheim in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building.

history

The steeple of the Church of St. Peter and Paul was probably built around 1300 . The nave and choir probably date from the 15th century. In 1565 the choir was rebuilt. From the end of the 17th century to the beginning of the 18th century, the interior of the church was fundamentally redesigned. Between 1902 and 1905 the interior of the church was also completely changed. The stucco on the choir vault was also made during this period . The flat ceiling in the nave was also created during this redesign.

Building description

The nave of the church is a flat-roofed hall with four window axes. On the outside there is a cloverleaf arch frieze below the eaves . There are arched windows in the nave. The slightly indented choir adjoins the nave through a formerly pointed choir arch. This consists of a window axis and has a 5/8 end. As in the nave, there are arched windows in the choir. A barrel vault with stitch caps closes the choir. There are simple buttresses on the outer facade of the choir . The cloverleaf arch frieze of the nave continues under the eaves of the choir. The undivided church tower from Nagelfluh is on the north side. This is with a gable roof covered. Sound arcades linked on all sides are located on the upper floor of the church tower. A groin vault is available in the basement of the church tower. The sign with a gable roof on the south side has a groin vault, probably from the 16th century.

Furnishing

Altars

High altar for Thanksgiving

The neo-baroque high altar was created in 1903 and 1904 by Carl Port . This is a marbled wooden structure whose construction parts from 1710 were reused. The altarpiece depicting the Assumption of the Virgin dates from 1716 by Arbogast Thalheimer the Elder. Ä. To the right and left of the altarpiece are two wooden figures from 1679. These depict the apostles Peter and Paul and are attributed to Johann Martin Natter . The two figures, as well as the tabernacle from 1751, were originally in the church in Ottobeuren .

The two side altars are, like the high altar, marbled wooden structures. The altars, which were probably built by Hans Nolf in 1684, were changed from 1902 to 1905. The consoles of the figures and the canopy are modern. The altarpiece on the left side altar shows the Transfiguration of St. John of Nepomuk and was donated in 1741. The figures on the side altars were made by Johann Martin Natter in 1684. The left side altar is flanked by the figures of St. Anthony of Padua and St. Anne. In the extract there is a figure of the Archangel Michael . The altarpiece on the right side altar with the depiction of the death of St. Joseph from 1683 was made by Johann Friedrich Sichelbein. It is flanked by the figures of St. Joachim and St. Catherine. A figure of St. Joseph can be seen in the excerpt from the left side altar.

Piece

Xaver Reitmaier created the choir stucco in 1902/05. This is an imitation of Wessobrunn shapes from the end of the 17th century. In the choir arch there is a renewed Ottobeuren coat of arms.

Baptismal font

The baptismal font was created around 1800 . The baptismal font rests on an Ionic column. A group of figures made of wood with the scene of the baptism of Christ adorns the lid of the baptismal font.

pulpit

pulpit

The pulpit from 1684 is, like the altars, a marbled wooden structure. The polygonal pulpit sits on a volute console. This is structured by free columns. In the resulting fields there are figures of the four church fathers. On the sound cover there are angel sputters between volutes.

Confessionals

The two confessionals from softwood date from the second half of the 18th century. The grain of the confessionals is painted on. The confessionals have a richly curved crown.

Other equipment

The Vespers from around 1500 and the crucifix from 1490 both have a new version. The neo-baroque choir stalls were created by Carl Port in 1903 . The memorial plaque for the fallen and missing from the years 1805 to 1815 is made from Solnhofen limestone . This is with Reich Sth. designated.
