The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul is the village church of Oberleichtersbach in the Rhön , near Bad Brückenau in the Bad Kissingen district . It is one of the architectural monuments of the municipality of Oberleichtersbach and is registered under the number D-6-72-138-2 in the Bavarian list of monuments .

history

Oberleichtersbach is the original parish for Bad Brückenau with all districts, Kothen with Werberg and Eckarts. In 1153 a Romanesque church was built. The basement of the tower dates from this time . In the 13th century the church was rebuilt in the Gothic style. The pointed arch portal on the south side and the eastern choir of this building still exist. A bell with the inscription MCCCXXXIII (= 1333) JOHANNES MATEUS MARCUS LUCAS indicates the end of the Gothic renovation. This bell is the oldest dated bell in the Bad Kissingen district. In the years 1686 to 1691 the church was redesigned in the Baroque style after the Gothic nave was demolished under the Fulda prince Abbot Placidus von Droste . The sandstone coat of arms of this prince abbot is placed above the south portal. In 1717 the church received an organ , the work of the organ builder Schleich from Bamberg . In 1747 the church tower was repaired and re-roofed. In 1957 the Rohlfing company from Osnabrück installed an organ with an electric action . In 1963 and 1981 the interior furnishings were renewed.

description

The church tower with arched sound windows and a Welscher hood stands on the west side. The basement serves as the entrance hall to the nave, in which the nave and the eastern choir merge without any separation. The nave has five window axes with arched windows and a ribbed vault . The choir with its lancet vault is only illuminated by two small ox-eye windows. A small roof turret rises above the gable roof of the nave .

Furnishing

In the church there is a baroque high altar around 1690 with Christ as the Man of Sorrows in the middle above the tabernacle , to the right and left of it the church patrons Peter and Paul . Above are figures of St. Michael (in the middle), St. Venantius with a bishop's staff (left) and St. Boniface with an abbot's staff (right). To the right and left of the high altar are figures of the Immaculate on the globe and of St. Wendelin . The former used to belong to the high altar. The latter is a copy (sculptor Rupert from Hammelburg ) of a figure from the Bildhausen monastery . The original is now in the Church of Salt . The sandstone baptismal font on the south wall is dated 1689. The wooden pulpit was made around 1750. On the north wall is a wooden Pietà from 1650, which was originally on the outer wall. Sound arcade columns from the church building from 1153 can also be seen in the church.

Peal

The ringing consists of four bells . The bell mentioned above is the oldest of them. The strikes are based on assumptions based on tables.
