St. Wendelinus (Kirmutscheid)
The Catholic parish church of St. Wendelinus in Kirmutscheid , a district of the local community of Wirft in the Ahrweiler district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in the Middle Ages . The church with the former rectory and the school is lonely on a hill between Wirftbach and the Trierbach, which flows into the Ahr . The church of St. Consecrated to Wendelin , it is a protected cultural monument .
history
In 1224, Count Gerhard von Are transferred the parish rights from Kirmutscheid to the Johanniter in Adenau . The church is not mentioned in the Liber valoris of the 14th century. In 1403 a pastor is mentioned in a document and around 1400 a new building was carried out using older parts.
architecture
The quarry stone building, which is now plastered and whitewashed, consists of a square west tower with a vestibule (built around 1700), shifted from the axis to the south, a wide nave and a three-sided choir with a sacristy attached to the east .
On its south side the tower has a two-part pointed arched window with fish bubble tracery . In the bell chamber there are coupled round arched double openings on fluted pillars .
On the nave walls, divided by buttresses , there are two two-part tracery windows on the south side and a simple pointed arch window on the north side. The higher choir walls have three-part windows with fish bubble tracery on both sides . The tower, nave and choir have a star vault with beautiful keystones .
Furnishing
The baroque altar (17th century) comes from the pilgrimage chapel Müllenwerft , it has a miraculous image from the 16th century. Next to it are wooden sculptures of John the Baptist and St. Wendelin from the 17th century.
