Life
In the early 1990s Renck celebrated some international chart successes under the name Stakka Bo (a slang expression for "Stockholm Boys") in collaboration with various Swedish musicians. His single Here We Go reached a top 20 position in both the British and German charts in September 1993 .
He graduated from Stockholm School of Economics and has made a name for himself as a video director since 1999 . Clips for Madonna ( Nothing Really Matters , Hung Up ), Suede ( She's In Fashion ), All Saints ( Black Coffee ), New Order ( Crystal , Krafty ), Kylie Minogue ( Love At First Sight ), Beyoncé ( Me, Myself And I ), The Streets ( Dry Your Eyes ), Robbie Williams ( Tripping ) and Lana Del Rey ( Blue Velvet ).
Renck's first film Downloading Nancy was released in German on January 15, 2010. The drama - the world premiere of which took place on January 21, 2008 at the Sundance Film Festival - tells the tragic story of borderliner Nancy ( Maria Bello ), who breaks out of the oppressive circumstances of her loveless marriage and meets another difficult and painful person named Louis. The film, which cost around three million US dollars, received critical acclaim in German-speaking countries. For example, the online culture magazine artifarti says that “the frozen hope of a sad character” experiences “a warming cinematic accentuation”. Renck wrote and sang the title song for the film together with his compatriot Joakim Berg from the band Kent .
Renck directed three episodes of seasons 2, 3 and 4 of the television series Breaking Bad . He also directed an episode of The Walking Dead series , which is shown like Breaking Bad on AMC television .
In 2019 Renck directed the miniseries Chernobyl , a dramatization of the 1986 disaster, for Sky and HBO , starring Stellan Skarsgård , Jared Harris and Emily Watson , among others . For his production he was awarded a Primetime Emmy 2019 in the category directing for a miniseries, a television film or a special .
Renck created the designs of three Absolut Vodka Exposure bottles, on each of which the model Lydia Hearst can be seen.
