The Steinbach is a nine kilometer long right tributary of the Sauer in the southwest Palatinate and in Alsace (region Grand Est ).

The Steinbach rises at a height of about 255 m in Wasgau on the southwest slope of the Großer Florenberg directly on the German-French border. It initially flows south and after about 300 m it crosses the border towards France. It then flows through the Forêt domaniale de Steinbach west of the Steinberg and then directs its course to the east, its main flow direction, which it essentially maintains up to the mouth. He is accompanied by the D3 on his way to the Sauer . In Obersteinbach the Schangenbach flows to him on his left side . The Steinbach flows through this community and is strengthened by the Langenbach at the eastern end of the village, also on its left side . Shortly before he reaches Niedersteinbach , he is fed on his right by Thomas Baechel . It passes a few smaller hamlets, takes in some unnamed streams and finally flows into the Sauer from the left at an altitude of 201 m southeast of the Rocher de l'Étang rock .
Almost a hundred meters further north, the Dentelbach, coming from the other side, flows into the Sauer .
