The Steinbach (in the lower reaches also called Ostersee-Ach , outdated Seeshauptsbach ) is an almost 17 km long tributary of Lake Starnberg in Upper Bavaria . It flows through several of the Easter lakes .

course

The Steinbach arises in the municipality of Obersöchering in the Filzlache corridor near Reinthal . It flows first in an easterly direction through the Fernweiher , then to the northeast through the areas of the communities Antdorf and Iffeldorf . The Lanzenbach flows into the hamlet of Steinbach . The Steinbach flows from the south into the Great Ostersee , which it leaves to the north under the name Ostersee-Ach . The Ostersee-Oh is then pumped through one after another of the lakes Osterseen chain, namely the Breitenauer See , the Ameissee , the Stechsee , the Gröbensee , the garden lake and Ursee . Groundwater input into the lakes (including spring pots such as the Blaue Gumpe ) in the lower reaches of the Ostersee-Ach leads to an average discharge of approx. 1 m³ / s. Shortly before its confluence with the Starnberger See near Seeshaupt , the Ostersee-Ach takes in the Bodenbach coming from the south .

Character and environment

The Steinbach drains an area in the south of würmeiszeitlich embossed Eberfinger Drumlingebiets . Initially, the Steinbach is a partially straightened, partially also piped meadow stream, which is dammed in small ponds (including remote ponds). In the further course it flows in a valley through the partly wooded moraine landscape . In this section, the gravelly stream bed often dries up in summer. Shortly before reaching the Great Ostersee, the Steinbach (Ostersee-Ach) takes on the character of a moss brook that flows through the reeds that surround the Osterseen. The brook retains this character until it reaches Seeshaupt. The field of Osterseen is a protected area of IUCN category IV, an established Geotop .
