Stonava (German Steinau , Polish Stonawa ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located five kilometers south of Karviná on the Stonávka and belongs to the Okres Karviná in Silesia .

history

On December 21, 2018, a serious accident occurred in the Důl ČSM coal mine due to a firedamp explosion at a depth of around 800 meters, in which 13 people were killed. The mine operator is OKD ( Ostravsko-karvinské doly ), which has been owned by the Czech state again since April 2018.
