The Stoppelsberg is the third highest mountain in the Main-Kinzig district after Haag and Völzberger Köpfchen . It rises in the area of the community Sinntal between the districts of Weichersbach and Oberzell . The Stoppelsberg forms a ridge with three elevations 554.4 m above sea level. NHN , 558.6 m above sea level NHN and 570.7 m above sea level NHN . To the west of the main summit, the terrain drops very steeply by 270 meters over a horizontal distance of 600 m.
The location of the mountain in the transition area from the Rhön to the Spessart makes an assignment difficult and repeatedly leads to contradicting information. The Stoppelsberg is part of the Spessart Nature Park . At the same time, however, it is also included in the Brückenauer Kuppenrhön natural area . In fact, the domed relief and the basalt that forms the stubble mountain correspond to the Rhön, whereas in the Spessart flatter surface forms and red sandstone are predominant.
Dense deciduous forest grows on the Stoppelsberg . Together with the Stiftes mountains to the west ( 567.7 m above sea level ) and Haag ( 584.6 m above sea level ), the Stoppelsberg is designated as a 440.2 hectare fauna-flora habitat and nature reserve.
