Storie di tutti i giorni ( Italian for "everyday stories") is a song by Riccardo Fogli with which he won the 1982 Sanremo Festival . It was written by Fogli with Guido Morra and Maurizio Fabrizio and produced by Giancarlo Lucariello . Through cover versions of u. a. Marco Borsato ( Dromen zijn bedrog , Most dreams are deceit ) and Roland Kaiser ( Tell him I love you ) the song became known outside of Italy in the 90s.

original

background

With Storie di tutti i giorni joined Riccardo Fogli in 1982 after eight years for the second time in the Sanremo Music Festival at. In 1974 he had not reached the final with Complici . After Fogli had landed a minor hit with Malinconia in 1981 and had climbed to third place in the Italian M&D charts, he was considered a favorite this time. Fogli sang the song for the first time on the second evening of the festival (January 29, 1982), he was accompanied on guitar by Roberto Puleo . In the final on the following day he appeared as ninth participant and was finally able to reach first place, ahead of Felicità from Al Bano & Romina Power and Solos from Drupi .

At the beginning of the festival, the magician Giucas Casella had guessed the winner's name correctly. The envelope with Casella's prediction had been deposited in a safe and was read out after the winner was announced. In general, Fogli's victory was expected by many, which is why voices were raised in retrospect that the result had been manipulated in consultation with the labels. The allegations could never be confirmed and were also rejected by Fogli.

Ariola - edition of the single Storie di tutti i giorni (1982)

The song was released as a 7 ″ single with the B-side L'amore che verrà on the Paradiso label and reached number one in the M&D single charts. It was to remain Fogli's only number one hit. Both songs found their way into the collector's album Collezione . At Epic Records Fogli also released a Spanish version of the single as Historia de todos los días / El amor nos llegará . In the rest of Europe, however, the single was released (in Italian) by Ariola and was able to place in the German and Swiss charts.

In 2004 the German pop singer Nino de Angelo released his own version of Storie di tutti i giorni on the cover album Un momento italiano . In 2009 Gianni Morandi also published a version of the song on his cover album Canzoni da non perdere .

The song consists of a two-part verse (V) and a refrain (C). After the verse and chorus have been strung together twice (VC-VC), the shortened third verse (only second part) and the third chorus follow. An instrumental outro concludes the composition.

text

In the lyrics of the song Fogli addresses “everyday stories” ( storie di tutti i giorni ) from the lives of “common people” ( brava gente ). While day after day goes by ( un giorno in più che se ne va ), their everyday life does not change and the “clock has long since stopped” ( un orologio fermo da un'eternità ); despite “big ideas” ( grandi idee ) they get “stuck halfway” ( semper a metà ) and experience no triumphs ( senza trionfi ) - even if no serious setbacks ( né grossi guai ). Friendships ( amici perduti ) and love stories ( una donna che non c'è più ) came to an end over time and never had a future ( storie senza futuro ). Everything stays the same ( vita di semper ), nothing changes ( niente cambierà ) and the days go down “in the noise of the city” ( un giorno… dimenticato tra i rumori di città ); what remains are tired people who can no longer be heard ( un uomo stanco che nessuno ascolterà ).

The interpreter is not only the observer of the event, but an active part of it, as in the first stanza the formulation storie di noi brava gente ("stories of us simple people") as well as in the refrain tutti quelli così come noi ("alle, die as we are ”) make it clear. He also tells his own as one of the everyday stories in hints - how he has to experience a love day after day that is not so big ( grande ; 1st), so beautiful ( bello ; 2nd) and so strong ( forte ; 3rd). Refrain) is as he hopes it will be.

Dromen zijn bedrog

background

Maxi single Dromen zijn bedrog by Marco Borsato

In 1994 the Dutch singer Marco Borsato released a cover version of Fogli's song under the title Dromen zijn bedrog ("Dreams are Fraud"). Borsato is of Italian descent and began his musical career with Italian-language songs. After four relatively unsuccessful albums, Borsato gave in to pressure from his producers to sing in Dutch from now on. However, he kept the reference to Italy by covering well-known Italian songs.

The first single from Borsato's first Dutch album Marco was Dromen zijn bedrog on the Polydor label with the B-side Ben ik je nu al kwijt ; The producer was John Ewbank . A maxi single was also released, which also contained an instrumental version of the title song. In its seventh week of the chart, the single reached the top position of the Nederlandse Top 40 on September 24, 1994 and held it for twelve weeks. The song set a long-term record that Gusttavo Lima was only able to beat in 2012 with Balada , who was at the top for 13 weeks. Borsato also had a two-week number one success in Flanders .

Borsato's version was followed by further Dutch cover versions: in 2008 by the band De Toppers and in 2010 by the duo Het Feestteam ; the latter version also made it into the single Top 100 .

text

The text, which has no relation to the Italian original and has a much more positive content, was written by Han Kooreneef and Leo Driessen . It is about a person whose beauty the singer describes in many ways in the first verse: she let the stars fade with her shining eyes ( starren, je laat ze remain, met je ogen die altijd stralen ), is able to let the sun shine to let ( jij kan de zon laten schijnen ), and could infect the whole world with their laughter ( as ever laughs, laughs heel de wereld mee ).

In the refrain, the phrase dromen zijn bedrog (“Träume sind Fraud”, German equivalent for example: dreams are foams ) is quoted, but immediately refuted because the person sung about is apparently a dream that has come true ( je bent een droom die naast me ligt ); This leads to the conclusion that dreams can come true once in a long time ( een keer in de zoveel tijd komen dromen uit ). In the second verse, the singer follows the request not to leave him, as she would then also take his dreams with her ( as je zou gaan neem je mijn dromen mee ).

German cover versions

The first German-language cover version comes from Marco Borsato, who after the success of Dromen zijn bedrog released the single in 1995 in Germany. This version comprised the two original titles in German translation as Most dreams are fraud and Have I already lost you as well as Storie di tutti i giorni in Italian. The German texts are from Carsten Pape .

In 2012 a Discofox version of Most Dreams Are Cheating by the German singer Nico Gemba was released , while keeping the lyrics by Pape.

As early as 1996, the German pop singer Roland Kaiser had published another cover under the title Tell him that I love you, independently of the Borsato version . The maxi single including the song Blue Eyes - Look at me was published by Hansa ; both songs found their way into Kaiser's album Grenzenlos . The text by Kaiser and Bernd Augener shows no similarities in terms of content to other versions of the song.

More cover versions

In 1982 the Finnish singer Markku Aro recorded his own version of the song under the title Jos luoja suo . Paul Reiman was responsible for the Finnish text . A French version of the song comes from Hervé Vilard , who wrote La vie est belle, le monde est beau with Didier Barbelivien and published it in 1995. In 1997 Aki Hietala again covered the Finnish version of Markku Aro. The Hermes House Band released an English version of the song in 2001 under the title Tonight's the Night ; the lyrics are from band member Robin Maas.
