action

The young DD leads a dandy life in Stockholm and never misses a party. He disregards his brother, who is extremely afraid of the dark, as well as the socially disadvantaged. He is unreliable with friends. Unrest comes into this life when a young woman (Lova) takes refuge in his taxi from a violent pack of dark figures. Although she initially disappears after successfully escaping, she stands in front of his door again in the evening. As soon as she has left him after some unclear hints, her pursuers storm DD's apartment. To gain clarity, he goes to an address given by Lova.

Once there, however, there are no answers waiting for him. Rather, he finally becomes part of the puzzling cat-and-mouse game when Lova's girlfriend hands him a dice before she is killed right in front of his eyes. On the run, he meets Lova again, who instead of explaining a lot, knocks him out.

When he comes to, he is in a deserted small town where he lived as a child. In his parents' apartment he finds a comic called "Storm", the plot of which reflects his current experiences. However, this does not help him any more than the unsuccessful attempt to open the cube with various tools. He then goes to the apartment of his former girlfriend Helena, where he has to watch how she was raped by him in the past. In another flashback, he watches himself as a teenager locking his younger brother in a crypt in the cemetery.

Lova has meanwhile been captured by the man in the suit leading the dark figures who tries to kill her in the blast furnace of a rubber factory. DD is able to save Lova, but she suffers severe burns . He takes her to the hospital, where he finally manages to open the cube. The broken glasses inside reveal the memory of the death of his older, extremely short-sighted sister Katta, whom he had completely forgotten, but who had previously been an extremely important reference person for him. He blamed herself for her death as she died in an accident after a group of teenagers forced him to crush her glasses.

Finally there is a showdown in the hospital. Lova manages to fight off the chasing troops. DD decides not to give up the cube and instead to live a life with his memories in respect of his fellow human beings. The man in the suit then turns to dust.

Reviews

On the one hand, the critics praised the imagery, visual design and unconventional narrative style, on the other hand, criticized the quick plot breaks and the open questions regarding unfinished storylines. For example, filmstarts.de notes: “It is only towards the end that the storylines condense more or less into a whole. 'Storm' creates a strong arc of tension, but fades increasingly, as the humorous interludes take the clout from the mysterious and exciting moments in a sometimes clumsy way. [...] The film is therefore visually and stylistically quite appealing ” .

” ( It is hurtful but beautiful, fragile but natural to think of memories of insults or crimes secretly committed in childhood, of terrible things that one wanted to forget but which always got the upper hand, being reminded that it hurts to live. That a Swedish film in 2006 arouses such associations makes me happy ).
