The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (short form: BIFFF) ( French Festival international du film fantastique de Bruxelles , Dutch Internationaal Festival van de Fantastische Film van Brussel ) is an international film festival for fantasy films , science fiction films and thrillers . It takes place every April in Brussels and is accredited as an international film festival with a specialized competition by the FIAPF film producers' association .
The first festival was held in March 1983. 60 films were shown in front of almost 30,000 viewers. By 2005 the number of visitors had increased to 60,000. This year 106 feature films and 67 short films have already been shown.
Since 1991 the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival has had thrillers in its program in addition to fantasy films and science fiction films .
Film awards
Golden raven
The Golden Raven is the main prize in the international competition for feature films. It is awarded by a jury.
In the international competition for feature films, the Golden Raven and the Pegasus are also awarded the Silver Raven. The Silver Méliès, named after Georges Méliès , has been awarded since 1996 and is the main prize of the European competition for feature films. In addition to other film prizes, the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival also has an international and a national competition for short films.
