Storm Front is the eleventh studio album by the American musician Billy Joel .

Compared to its predecessor The Bridge , the album was much more successful. After its release in October 1989, Storm Front reached number one on the US album charts.

With the song We Didn't Start the Fire , in which the musician lists important events in American history from 1949 to 1989, the record also contains one of Joel's three number one hits. The second single, Leningrad , came in at number 14 in Germany and at number 53 in Great Britain. The third single, I Go to Extremes , the artist's exploration of the ups and downs of his life, made it to number six on the Billboard charts . Other released singles were And So It Goes (# 37), That's Not Her Style (# 77) and The Downeaster 'Alexa' (# 57).

Cover versions

Country musician Garth Brooks re- recorded Shameless for his album Ropin 'the Wind . The cover version was released as a single and reached the top of the US country charts as well as a placement in the UK singles charts.

The Canadian singer Paul Anka covered I Go to Extremes for his 2007 album Classic Songs. My way .

Trivia

In Leningrad , Billy Joel compares his life with that of the Russian circus clown Viktor Razinov (Russian Виктор Разинов). Joel met Razinov on the occasion of his concerts in the Soviet Union in 1987. The song's original video contains a few short sections that appear to show Joel and Razinov together.

Razinov traveled to New York in 2015 to meet Joel again and attend one of his concerts. Joel played Leningrad live on the occasion , which he otherwise does very rarely.
