The Nylon Curtain is the eighth studio album by the American musician Billy Joel . It was released in September 1982 and is one of the first records ever to be digitally recorded, mixed and remastered .

The individual titles of the work, especially "Laura", "Surprises", "Scandinavian Skies" and "Where's the Orchestra", show direct influences from the Beatles and John Lennons and also pay homage to the musical legacy of the group The title "Allentown" drew worldwide attention to the city of the same name in eastern Pennsylvania and the decline of industry in the Central Atlantic states .

The end of the last track, “Where's the Orchestra?” Uses a simplified instrumental version of the leitmotif from “Allentown” so that a loop is created by linking the first and last tracks.

After its release in September 1982, "The Nylon Curtain" made it to seventh place on the US album charts and became one of the top-selling records of the year with two million records sold in the United States. The single "Allentown" reached number 17 in the singles charts and became one of the most played pieces of the early 1980s on radio.
