Storytime is a song by the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish . It is the first single from their seventh studio album Imaginaerum and reached number one on the Finnish single charts.
Origin and content
The song was written by Tuomas Holopainen . He got the inspiration for the song from the film The Snowman from 1982. Nightwish had already covered the theme song of the film Walking in the Air on their album Oceanborn . Holopainen described the song as a midnight flight with a snowman . The text of the song contains numerous references to children's books such as Peter Pan or Alice in Wonderland . Also called Gaia , who in Greek mythology represents the personified earth .
The music video corresponds to the radio version of the song and is about 1:30 minutes shorter than the album version. The musicians play the song and wear the costumes in which they can be seen in the film Imaginaerum . The cover of the single was designed by "Toxic Angel" (real name Janne Pitkänen). The single was released on CD, as a download and in various vinyl versions.

Andreas Schulz from the online magazine Musikreviews.de described the song as a “typical Nightwish hit, catchy, fast and with a refrain that you can't get out of your head for weeks”. Steffen M. from the Austrian online magazine Stormbringer described Storytime as a catchy tune and praised the singer Anette Olzon , who puts her "variable voice in the service of the band sound very well in scene and puts her own stamp on the song".
Storytime entered the Finnish singles chart at number one, making it the twelfth number one hit in the band's history. In Spain and Hungary the single reached second place on the respective charts. Storytime reached 39th place in the German single charts . 31st place in Switzerland and 57th place in Austria .
