End of an Era is a live DVD of the Finnish symphonic metal - band Nightwish . Nuclear Blast recorded the concert on October 21, 2005 at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki , Finland . It was the last concert of a long world tour that began after the release of the album Once . During the concert, the Lakota Indian from the Oglala tribe, John Two-Hawks , performed with the band. His performance of the song "Stone People" from his album Honor served as an introduction to the Nightwish song "Creek Mary's Blood", which the band played with Two-Hawks.
In addition to the band's own songs, the earlier published cover versions "Over the Hills and Far Away" by Gary Moore and "The Phantom of the Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Webber were played. In addition, a cover of the song "High Hopes" by Pink Floyd was presented.
In addition to the 1-hour and 43-minute concert, the DVD includes a 55-minute film entitled A Day Before Tomorrow , which documents the preparations for the concert, as well as a photo gallery.
The DVD was released on June 1, 2006 in Finland and on June 2, 2006 in Germany. After just one day, the record had achieved gold status in Finland. On June 17, 2008, the band received the platinum award for more than 200,000 DVDs sold to retailers in Germany.
End of an Era is the last production with the singer Tarja Turunen . On the evening of the concert she was handed a letter by the band, asking that it be opened the next morning. In the letter, Holopainen accuses her of seeing herself only as a "guest musician" and acting mainly out of greed, which all too often came at the expense of the fans. Her relationship with her husband Marcelo Cabuli, who “turned her from a lovable girl into a diva”, is particularly attacked. In addition to Holopainen, the three other band members also signed the letter. The letter was also published on the official website in Finnish, German and English the following evening.
