Troy Donockley (born May 30, 1964 in Workington ) is a British composer , multi-instrumentalist and music producer . He performed with numerous musicians and released three studio albums as a solo artist. Donockley became known as a member of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish , where he played the Uilleann Pipes , among other things .

Career

Troy Donockley's parents were also musicians and played in the band Traveling Country . At the age of 16, Donockley joined the band. In 1987 he founded the Celtic rock band You Slosh and later became a member of the progressive rock band Iona . Together with comedian Adrian Edmonson, Donockley founded the band The Bad Shepherds in 2008 , which interprets punk and new wave songs with folk instruments. Donockley has also appeared as a guest musician on albums by artists such as Dave Bainbridge , Barbara Dickson , Midge Ure , Maddy Prior , Roy Harper , Del Amitri , Status Quo , Kamelot and Mostly Autumn . Donockley's music can also be heard in TV documentaries or in films such as Robin Hood or Ironclad - Until the Last Warrior .

Troy Donockley has been working with the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish since 2007. On the two albums Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum he could still be heard as a guest musician and, in addition to the Uillean Pipes, also played the Tin Whistle . In October 2013, Donockley finally became a permanent member of the band. On their 2015 album Endless Forms Most Beautiful he contributed the Irish bouzouki and the bodhrán as well as the already known instruments and could also be heard as a background singer . Together with Tuomas Holopainen and the singer Johanna Kurkela , he founded the band Auri , which released their debut album of the same name in 2018.
