Over the Hills and Far Away is an EP by the Finnish band Nightwish . The original title track was written by Gary Moore (1986).

background

music

The theme song "Over the Hills and Far Away" is a cover version by rock and blues guitarist Gary Moore . The accompanying music video, in which the entire band could be seen for the first time, was shot in the Estonian capital Tallinn and on the Baltic Sea .

"10th Man Down" is a duet between Turunen and the singer of the band Finntroll at the time , Tapio Wilska . He had already participated in the songs "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" and "The Pharao Sails to Orion" on the album Oceanborn .

"Astral Romance" is a remake of the song of the same name on Angels Fall First . Instead of keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen , Tony Kakko , known as the singer of the band Sonata Arctica, sings in this version . The lyrics are slightly different from the original.

While the version of "Over the Hills and Far Away" originally released in Finland only contains four songs, a version with some live versions of the From Wishes to Eternity concert was released in other countries .

reception

In Finland, Over the Hills and Far Away was awarded number one in the singles chart after several weeks with a platinum record . In Germany the EP came in at number 85, in Austria at number 54 and in Switzerland at number 79. A DVDPlus version with audio tracks on one side and video tracks on the other reached number 4 in German music -DVD charts; since Media Control rated this version as a normal DVD and not an audio CD, the placement in the album charts was comparatively low.
