The Struth von Altengronau is a nature reserve (NSG) near Altengronau in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district (NSG no .: 435-024).

location and size

The nature reserve extends at a height of 225 m above sea level. NN over an area of ​​9.0 hectares along the Sinn between the localities of Altengronau and Zeitlofs , enclosed by the state roads L2304 and L 2289. Nearby, the Schmale Sinn flows into the Sinn; However, the nature reserve does not directly border the two rivers of the Schmaler Sinn and Breiter Sinn, but is separated from them by an exclave of the Sinnwiesen nature reserve from Altengronau .

Brief description and protection purpose

The Struth von Altengronau was designated as a nature reserve in the 1980s. This fact can be traced back to the occurrence of rare species such as the checkerboard flower (Fritillaria meleagris) and the European beaver (Castor fiber). The purpose of the nature reserve is "to protect and promote the fens that are under development and the adjacent wet and bushy areas as a habitat and refuge for numerous endangered plant and animal species."
