Susanne S. Renner

Susanne Sabine Renner (born October 5, 1954 in Tübingen ) is a German and American botanist . She is professor of biology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , director of the Botanical Garden in Munich-Nymphenburg and director of the Munich State Botanical Collection . academic career

Susanne Renner received her diploma in 1980 and her doctorate in biology from the University of Hamburg in 1984 . In 1992 she completed her habilitation in systematic botany . From 1987 to 1992 she was Associate Professor at the Botanical Institute at Aarhus University . From 1993 to 1996 she held a professorship at the Institute for Special Botany at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . From 1996 to 2006 she was a professor at the University of Missouri – St. Louis , to which one of the largest botanical gardens in the world, the Missouri Botanical Garden , is attached. Since 2003 she has held the chair for systematic botany at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, is director of the Botanical Garden Munich-Nymphenburg, the Botanical State Collection and the University Herbarium (MSB). Her most influential (most cited) scientific papers deal with the diocese of Bedecktsamern and the biogeography and phylogeny of the Laurel-like .

Renner has been an elected foreign member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences since 2005, an elected member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and the Leopoldina since 2009 and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2018 .
