Susanne Weidinger (* 1977 in Hamburg as Susanne Heitmann ) is a German jazz musician ( baritone saxophone , bass clarinet , also flute ).

Live and act

Weidinger first played the clarinet in the school big band before switching to the baritone saxophone. Then she played in the Hamburg Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Lüneburg Big Band Blechschaden . She began her instrumental studies at the conservatory in Arnhem , before switching to Claudius Valk and Wolfgang Engstfeld after a year at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . From 1998 to 2001 she was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra , where she was discovered by Peter Herbolzheimer . At the age of 22 he brought her to his Rhythm Combination & Brass , where she succeeded Bubi Aderhold and Steffen Schorn as baritone saxophonist . She belonged to the formation until it was dissolved in 2010. She also played in Peter Fleischhauer's King of Swing Orchestra , the Regensburg Jazz Orchestra and the Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra .

She gained further experience in the Cologne scene in the bands of Tom Gaebel and Tobias Kremer, then in large Cologne formations such as the Wednesday Night Big Band under the direction of Magnus Mehl , the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra and now in the Subway Jazz Orchestra . For more than eight years she toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra under Wil Salden , but also played as a guest in the hr Big Band and the WDR Big Band .

Together with Kristina Brodersen she formed a Gerry Mulligan / Johnny Hodges project. In her own trio Just 3 , she worked with Andreas Dahmen and Jakob Kühnemann . She can also be heard on albums with Jeff Cascaro , Die Toten Hosen and Broiler . She is married to the trumpeter Tobias Weidinger .
