Sylwester Bednarek (born April 28, 1989 in Głowno ) is a Polish high jumper .

First of all, he drew attention to himself since 2005 in the youth and junior sector with several top placings at international championships. His best result was winning the silver medal at the World Junior Athletics Championships in 2008 in Bydgoszcz .

In 2009 he established himself in the adult sector. At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Turin , he failed to qualify. A few months later at the World Championships in Berlin , he surprisingly won the bronze medal. He achieved a new personal best with a jumped height of 2.32 m. He shared third place with the German Raúl Spank at the same height . The world champion Jaroslaw Rybakow and the runner-up Kyriakos Ioannou had also jumped 2.32 m, but were rated ahead of Bednarek and Spank due to the lower number of their failed attempts. Bednarek was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland for his sporting achievements .

At the European Athletics Championships 2010 in Barcelona Bednarek was tenth.

Sylwester Bednarek is 1.96 m tall and has a competition weight of 70 kg. He starts for the Rudzki Klub Sportowy in Łódź.
