The Carpentras synagogue is the oldest still active synagogue in France , its founding dates back to 1367. It has been a listed building since 1924 .

The synagogue narrowly escaped the clearing work of the town hall, which was freed from the surrounding ruins in 1890 . The facade and the vestibule date from this time. The ground floor does not seem to be older than the 15th century. The assembly hall, the women's synagogue, the ritual baths and the bakery open onto an inner courtyard. The prayer room on the first floor was rebuilt in 1741. In the east, which is the Tabernacle with the Torah scrolls and in the West teba where the officiant sits to read the Torah. The galleries with the barred arcades are reserved for women. In 1793 the synagogue was deprived of a meeting place for the Revolutionary Club and its furniture . In 1800 it was reopened for Jewish worship.
