Szabolcs Szőcs (born March 1, 1980 in Miercurea Ciuc ) is a Romanian ice hockey player who has been playing at CSM Dunărea Galați in the Romanian ice hockey league since 2014 .
Career
Club
Szabolcs Szőcs, who belongs to the Hungarian-speaking Szekler minority in Romania , began his career at what is now HSC Csíkszereda . With the traditional club of the Szekler, which at that time was still called SC Miercurea Ciuc, he won the Romanian championship title in 2000, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2010 . In 2001 , 2003 , 2007 , 2008 and 2010 he and his club also won the Romanian cup competition. He won the Pannonian League with his club in 2004. From 2006 to 2008 he started with his team in the Hungarian Ice Hockey League , where it was enough for third place in both years. From 2008 he played with his club in the newly founded MOL league . In the 2010/11 season he played at ASC Corona 2010 Brașov . He then returned to his hometown club, which had just been renamed HSC Csíkszereda. In 2012 and 2013 he was again Romanian national champion and in 2014 he won the cup with the club. After three years in his hometown, he moved to CSM Dunărea Galați in 2014 , for whom he has been on the ice in the Romanian ice hockey league and with which he won the Romanian title in 2015 and 2016.
International
In contrast to other Szeklers who play for Hungary , Szőcs plays internationally for his native Romania . He was already internationally active in the junior sector: he made his debut at the U18-C European Championship in 1997 when he was the tournament's top scorer. In the following year he also played at the U18-C European Championship . In the U20 division he played at the D World Championships in 1999 and 2000 .
Szőcs made his debut in the men's national team at the 2003 Division I World Cup . Also in 2009 , 2012 and 2013 he played in Division I. After relegation in the meantime, he was on the ice in Division II in 2010 . In 2010, 2012 and 2013 he was the team captain of the Romanian selection. He also represented his colors at the qualifying tournaments for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi and 2018 in Pyeongchang .
