geography

The place lies on the border of the Saybuscher Beskids ( Beskid Żywiecki ) in the south and Silesian Beskids ( Beskid Śląski ) in the northwest.

The village has an area of 725 ha (7.42% of the rural parish).

history

According to the chronicle of Andrzej Komoniecki (* 1678; † 1729) the village was founded around 1625 and was initially called Śmierlawka . Wallachians and farmers from Lipowa established the settlement on cleared land .

During the first partition of Poland in 1772 the village became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804).

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Szare came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Saybusch in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ). As part of the so-called Aktion Saybusch , 58 Polish families (318 people) were expelled from Jeleśnia on September 7, 1940 in order to settle 18 ethnic German families (70 people).

In 1948 the district of Szare Gronie was separated as the new village of Laliki .

From 1975 to 1998 Szare was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
