Milówka is a village and capital of the rural community of the same name in the powiat Żywiecki in the Silesian Voivodeship .

geography

Milówka is located in the Saybuscher Beskids , a mountain range in the Outer Western Carpathians , south of the city of Żywiec . The Soła River flows through the village and flows into the Vistula . The village Milówka is traditionally divided into the districts Balasówka, Ciapałowie, Ficki, Juraszka, Komery, Siedloki and Zabawa.

history

Since 1467 the rule of Saybusch belonged to the aristocratic Komorowski family, who carried out a settlement campaign, including along the trade route from Wieliczka through Żywiec to Hungary . The first rural settlements were probably founded in the second half of the 15th century. Milówka was first mentioned in 1537 and was founded by two groups of people. First, Polish settlers who hiked up the Soła River and gradually worked the surrounding fallow land and cleared the forests. After them, in the higher parts of the Saybuscher Beskids , came the Wallachian shepherds, who then assimilated with the earlier settlers. Andrzej Komoniecki (* 1678, † 1729) mentioned the place in his chronicle from 1608. In 1669 the Polish King John II Casimir visited the place.

When Poland was first partitioned in 1772, it became part of the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire (from 1804). In the later 19th century the place developed into a small town and received town charter in 1884 (lost in 1934). The first bank was opened in 1879. A synagogue was built in 1882 . In November 1894 Rajcza was connected to the Żywiec - Čadca (SK) rail network. In 1889 the volunteer fire brigade and in 1903 the first school were founded. In 1900 Milówka had 372 houses with 2678 inhabitants, 2609 of them Polish-speaking, 61 German-speaking, 2495 Roman Catholic, 9 Greek Catholic, 174 Jews.

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Milówka came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II . It then belonged to the district of Saybusch in the administrative district of Katowice in the province of Silesia (since 1941 province of Upper Silesia ). As part of the so-called Aktion Saybusch , several Polish families were expelled in 1940 in order to settle ethnic Germans .

From 1975 to 1998 Milówka was part of the Bielsko-Biała Voivodeship .
