Turkish Embassy Belgrade
The Turkish Embassy Belgrade ( officially : Embassy of the Republic of Turkey Belgrade; T ürkiye C umhuriyeti Belgrade Büyükelçiliği or T . C . Büyükelçiliği Belgrade) is the highest diplomatic representation of the Republic of Turkey in Serbia . Ali Rıza Çolak has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in the embassy building since 2010 .
The first ambassador of the Ottoman Empire was Sermed Efendi , who was active from January 1, 1881 to June 1, 1881. The embassy building is located in the immediate vicinity of the House of the National Assembly and the Presidential Palace. The building was used as a castle during the Habsburg era . The Serbian poet Jovan Jovanović Zmaj lived in the building for some time. Today a plaque on the facade of the house reminds of this. The building was rented during the Serbian monarchy. In 1967 the embassy building was bought.
On March 9, 1983, the embassy was assassinated by the Armenian terrorist organization Asala , as a result of which the ambassador Galip Balkar died. His driver was injured and a Yugoslav passerby was also killed.
