Turkish Embassy London
The Turkish Embassy in London ( officially : Embassy of the Republic of Turkey London; T ürkiye C umhuriyeti Londra Büyükelçiliği or T . C . Londra Büyükelçiliği) is the highest diplomatic representation of the Republic of Turkey in the United Kingdom . Ünal Çeviköz has been the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in the embassy building since 2009 .
Location
The embassy building is located at 43 Belgrave Square , in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea . In 1901 the embassy moved from 1 Bryanston Square to 69 Portland Place and in 1954 to its current location at 43 Belgrave Square.
history
Towards the end of the 18th century, the Ottoman Empire decided to send envoys ( mukim elçi ) to European countries. So in 1793 Yusuf Agâh Efendi was sent as the first envoy to London. Apart from the years between 1914 and 1924, the embassy has existed from 1793 until today. Diplomatic relations were suspended due to the First World War and only resumed after the establishment of the Republic of Turkey on September 2, 1924.
Area of responsibility
The embassy covers Great Britain , Northern Ireland , Isle of Man , Bailiwick of Jersey and Bailiwick of Guernsey . Consular affairs for these areas have been taken care of by the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in London since 1923.
