(Benzothiazol-2-ylthio) methylthiocyanate or TCMTB is a chemical compound from the group of benzothiazoles .

properties

(Benzothiazol-2-ylthio) methylthiocyanate is an oily, flammable, red to brown liquid with a pungent odor that is very sparingly soluble in water. It decomposes when heated, producing hydrogen cyanide , sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides . 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (2-MBT) and 2-benzothiazole sulfonic acid occur as degradation products .

use

(Benzothiazol-2-ylthio) methylthiocyanate is used as a broad spectrum microbicide , paint fungicide and paint algicide . The active ingredient was approved in the USA in 1980. It is used, for example, in leather preservation, to protect paper products, in wood preservatives or against the contamination of industrial water.

In the USA (Benzothiazol-2-ylthio) methylthiocyanate is used as a fungicide for dressing seeds in cereals, safflower , cotton and sugar beet.

Admission

TCMTB is not a permitted crop protection agent in the European Union . In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no pesticides with this active ingredient are permitted.
