Tadeusz Pawlusiak (born August 9, 1946 in Wilkowice ; † April 16, 2011 there ) was a Polish ski jumper . He was a two-time Polish champion and took part in the 1972 and 1976 Winter Olympics.

Career

Tadeusz Pawlusiak came from a winter sports family and was the oldest of five siblings, all of whom were successful in Nordic skiing for Poland. His sister Anna Pawlusiak was a successful cross-country skier, his brother Stanisław Pawlusiak was also a ski jumper and Józef Pawlusiak was a Nordic combined skier . Brother Peter Pawlusiak was a trainer in Zakopane. Like his siblings, he was most recently a member of the BBTS Włókniarz Bielsko-Biała association . Pawlusiak began skiing in 1959 and initially trained in Nordic combined. However, after he stood out with good jumping performances, he concentrated on it and became a member of the Polish national team in 1965. In 1969 he won his first Polish championship. In the winter of 1969/70 he took part in the major ski jumping tours for the first time. At the Knight's Tour of Friendship , he was seventh overall. On his first Four Hills Tournament in 1969/70 he surprisingly jumped to eighth place in Innsbruck and was 24th in the overall standings at the end of the day. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 he was 12th in the individual. In the team competition, which took place for the first time as a demonstration competition, he reached fifth place together with Stanisław Gąsienica Daniel , Józef Przybyła and Adam Krzysztofiak . After the World Cup, Pawlusiak traveled to the United States to ski at Ironwood . He had a bad fall during training and had to take a break for the rest of the winter.

The Four Hills Tournament 1970/71 began for Pawluisiak with third place in Oberstdorf . However, he was unable to maintain this performance and ended up only seventh overall. A little later he won the Army Spartakiad in Zakopane and was also Polish runner-up. At the Four Hills Tournament 1971/72 he was 27th overall. In the last competition he broke his hip, which is why a start at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo was still in question. The injury healed quickly, which is why he was able to compete in Japan. He was 32nd on the normal and 18th on the large hill. A little later he secured bronze at the Polish Championships. As a result, he received a starting place for the ski flying world championship 1972 in Planica , canceled his participation after his injury from Ironwood two years earlier.

After a less successful winter 1972/73, in which he only achieved his second and last national championship title, he came eleventh overall at the Four Hills Tournament 1973/74 . His best individual placement was eighth in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze. Again this winter he was runner-up on the K70 and bronze winner on the K90 at the Polish Championships. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1974 in Sweden's Falun he was tenth. However, he broke his hip again. After a full season break at international level, he came back to the national team in the winter of 1975/76. In the Four Hills Tournament 1975/76 he was 17th, where he achieved his best individual placement of the season with seventh place in Innsbruck . At the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, he finished 31st and 52nd.

In 1979 Pawlusiak ended his active ski jumping career at the age of 33. He then took over the head coach position in his home club. Pawlusiak was married and has a son who is also active in skiing. He lived in his hometown Wilkowice until his death in 2011 and ran his own company there. He was buried on April 20 in the Wilkowice municipal cemetery.
