Tannenkirch is the westernmost district of Kandern in Markgräflerland and the second largest in terms of population. The place is elevated on the southern slope of the Hohe Schule and is known for its viticulture . The districts of Gupf, Ettingen and Uttnach belong to Tannenkirch.

history

The first documentary mention was in 1179, when the church is mentioned in a papal bull ("Ecclesia de Tannenkilch"). According to the Bürgler Chronicle, a vineyard in Tannenkirch was given to the Bürgeln Monastery as early as 1138 . In 1184 the Cluniac priory of St. Ulrich was the patron saint of the community. The church Tannenkirch was named as a parish church in 1223 ("plebanus de Tannenkirch"). 1388 was the place Margrave Rudolf III. enfeoffed as church tithes by the bishop of Basel .

On March 1, 1974, Tannenkirch was incorporated into the town of Kandern.

A 5 km long circular hiking trail ( Steingäßle path ) through the local vineyards begins in the center . In Tannenkirch the grape varieties Gutedel , Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner as well as the blue Pinot Noir and the Regent are grown.

In City Hall Tannenkirch is a museum for the cooper crafts. Opposite the town hall is the Evangelical parish church Tannenkirch St. Matthias, which consists of a medieval choir tower and a nave built in 1973.
