Tape is an American drama directed by Richard Linklater from 2001 . Stephen Belber wrote the script based on his own play.

action

The action takes place in a motel room. The dealer Vince is visited by his old friend Jon Salter, a documentary writer. They talk about the old days and Amy Randall, who Vince was with back then. Randall and Vince didn't have sex during that time. However, after the relationship ended, she slept with Salter.

Vince says Randall told him she was raped by Salter. It also turns out that Vince is taping the conversation.

Randall comes and joins the conversation. She says she is a prosecutor. The trio discusses the alleged rape. Randall uses her cell phone to call the police, who say she can arrest Vince for drug possession and Salter for rape. She tells the men they only have a few minutes to escape. Salter remains seated while Vince hastily flushes his stash of drugs down the toilet.

Randall reveals she just faked the call and leaves the room.

Peter Travers wrote in Rolling Stone magazine on November 8, 2001 that the film was " another exciting experiment " by the director. He adapted the play in a snappy and witty tone; the three actors are in top form (" all at the top of their game ").
